Read the Staff is a free set of browser-based tools for practicing music reading. It's built to collect as little as possible — there are no accounts, and we don't ask for or store any personal information.

Information we collect
We don't collect personal information. There's no registration, and the site never asks for your name, email, or any account details.
Data stored in your browser
To remember your preferences between visits, the site saves settings — such as your exercise configuration, saved presets, theme, and volume — in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and you can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this domain.
MIDI & audio
If you connect a MIDI keyboard, the site uses your browser's Web MIDI API to read the notes you play. This happens entirely in your browser to drive the exercise — note data is not recorded or sent anywhere. The site does not use your microphone or camera.
Advertising
This site is supported by advertising. We may use third-party advertising vendors, such as Google, to serve ads. These vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to show and measure ads, and in some cases to personalize them based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Hosting

Children
This is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date above.
